Murfreesboro, TN (November 14, 2025) – The Murfreesboro Branch of the NAACP is proud to announce its upcoming Thanksgiving Food Drive, an initiative aimed at providing complete holiday dinners to local families whose SNAP benefits have been disrupted by the 2025 U.S. government shutdown.
The event, held at Patterson Park Community Center on November 22, 2025, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, will collect food donations from the community to ensure that every family can enjoy a warm, traditional Thanksgiving meal—despite the hardships caused by the temporary suspension of federal assistance programs.
“This Thanksgiving, our community is stepping up to fill the gap,” says David Settles, President of the Murfreesboro NAACP. “We believe no family should go without a holiday meal because of circumstances beyond their control. This food drive represents what the NAACP stands for—community, compassion, and collective action.”
Community members are encouraged to donate shelf-stable, or non-perishable Thanksgiving staples, including:
Stuffing mix, canned green beans, corn, and cranberry sauce
Instant mashed potatoes, boxed macaroni and cheese, or rice
Cooked turkey or ham
Gravy packets and cornbread mix
Grocery gift cards and frozen desserts
The Murfreesboro NAACP invites residents, businesses, and organizations to participate and help ensure every family can share in the joy and tradition of Thanksgiving. For updates on the event’s date, time, and location, please follow Murfreesboro NAACP on Facebook.
